After the pricing restructure in 2026-05, the free plan no longer includes an officially hosted Agent chat quota (there was previously talk of roughly 50 hosted prompts/month or an equivalent token credit, but the official pricing page no longer lists this). To chat with models like Claude or GPT inside Zed, you now need to bring your own third-party API Key, billed separately at that vendor's rates — Zed itself adds no markup.
Well-suited to scenarios where all you want is 'a free, good local-editor Tab completion.' If you're counting on an officially hosted free Agent chat quota, that's now essentially gone — you'll need to bring your own key.
