ModelScope Notebook Free GPU (36 hours for new users + free CPU environment)

After linking an Alibaba Cloud account, each new user gets 36 hours of initial free GPU compute for training, inference, and evaluation inside ModelScope Notebook; once the GPU is used up you can keep using the free CPU environment; also includes 100GB of free persistent storage

Official doc "Notebook introduction" verbatim: ModelScope Notebook is a cloud machine-learning development IDE that provides a limited-time free compute quota through its collaboration with Alibaba Cloud PAI-DSW; the ModelScope platform gives every user a certain amount of free initial compute so they can try the whole workflow of model training, inference, and evaluation in Notebook; for each new user, the free initial compute resources provided by Notebook's product partner are "free quota of 36 hours"; using Notebook requires authorizing and linking an Alibaba Cloud account to get the free initial quota. The free compute can only be used inside ModelScope Notebook, and a single instance run is capped at 10 hours; an instance idle for more than 1 hour times out and shuts down automatically, so close it manually when not in use to avoid burning quota. Notebooks based on PAI-DSW instances currently come with 100GB of free persistent storage (mounted at /mnt/workspace; the platform may clear it if the account is inactive for more than 365 days, and no SLA is provided). After the free GPU quota is used up you can keep developing in the CPU Notebook environment, locally, or on the paid commercial edition.

⚠️36 hours is a one-time initial GPU quota for new users; the official text also says "the community will launch more campaigns for free GPU compute later" and lists no validity period, so go by the remaining-quota countdown at the top right of "My Notebook" in your personal console. You must authorize linking an Alibaba Cloud account, and Alibaba Cloud accounts require real-name verification. It is a separate benefit from the modelscope-api-inference entry already on this site (2000 free API calls per day). The free shared xGPU on Creative Space is a different mechanism and is not covered here.
